【Established Date】 Tianjin and Kitakyushu of Japan signed a memorandum of understanding for Sino-Japanese recycling-oriented city cooperation on May 7, 2008.

【City Characteristics】Located in Fukuoka Prefecture on the northern tip of Kyushu Island, Kitakyushu is one of the four major industrial zones in Japan, with the main industries being steel and chemicals, and is committed to building a resource recycling city. In 2004, Kitakyushu set the goal of becoming a “World Environmental Capital". In 2006 and 2007, Kitakyushu won the first place in Japan's environmental capital competition for two consecutive years, and in 2008, the city was approved as a “environmental model city" by the state. Currently, Kitakyushu is striving to become a low-carbon economy city where the environment and industry develops harmoniously.
