[Bonding Date] On September 17, 2021, Tianjin, China and Karachi, Pakistan signed a letter of intent to establish a sister-city relationship.

Karachi is located on the southern coast of Sindh Province, northwest of the Indus River Delta, and borders the Arabian Sea to the south. Situated on the plain between the Lyari River and the Malir River, the city has a tropical marine climate. Being the capital of Sindh Province and once the capital of Pakistan from 1947 to 1959, Karachi is the largest city in Pakistan, the national industrial, commercial, financial and media center, the primary center of higher education in South Asia and the Muslim world, and home to many large Pakistani enterprises. Divided into 5 districts and 18 towns, the city has a population of 20 million and an area of 3,527 square kilometers, including an urban area of 1,821 square kilometers. It has two major ports: the Port of Karachi and the Port Qasim. There are many high-rise buildings in the city, including Habib Bank, the tallest building in Pakistan. There is also a bustling CBD with heavy traffic and a picturesque beach with coconut trees.

The Port Qasim Coal-fired Power Station Project under the CPEC is also located in Karachi.
