Reunion Residence Permit

Welcome to the application process for the reunion residence permit. Please provide the following documents, and thank you for your cooperation.

Reunion residence permits are issued to family members of Chinese citizens who need to reside in China for family reunion and to family members of foreigners with permanent residence status in China. These permits are also issued to individuals who need to reside in China for fostering and other reasons. Family members include spouses, parents, parents of spouses, children, siblings, grandparents, material grandparents, grandchildren, and children's spouses.

I. Required Documents

1. Valid passport or other international travel documents.

2. Completed "Foreigner Visa and Residence Permit Application Form."

3. One recent, half-length, 2-inch photo showing your bare head. For first-time applicants, on-site photo taking is available free of charge. For non-first-time applicants, a paper photo is required, or on-site free photo-taking is possible.

4. Health certificate issued by Tianjin Customs (exempt for those under age 18 and over 70, and for residence permit extensions).

5. A letter from the person being visited explaining the family relationship (invitation letter from the person being visited).

6. Proof of family relationship (if the person being visited remains the same, the application may not be submitted again when blood relatives in Tianjin.)

7. Foreign family members of Chinese citizens or foreign nationals with permanent residence status in Tianjin should also provide the following materials.

   (1) For visiting permanent residents of this city, provide the resident ID card and household registration certificate of the person being visited (for visits to non-permanent residents of this city, provide a residence certificate for the person being visited of at least 6 months in Tianjin).

   (2) For visiting overseas Chinese who are permanent residents in Tianjin, provide the overseas Chinese's Chinese passport, proof of settlement abroad, and a residence certificate of at least 6 months in Tianjin.

   (3) For visiting permanent residents from Hong Kong and Macao, provide the "Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents" and a residence certificate of at least 6 months in Tianjin.

   (4) For visiting permanent residents from Taiwan, provide the "Mainland travel permit for Taiwan residents" or "People's Republic of China Travel Document" and a residence certificate of at least 6 months in Tianjin.

   (5) For visiting foreigners with permanent residence status in China, provide the "Foreigner Permanent Residence Permit."

8. For foreign-born children under 18 who are fostered in China by Chinese of foreign nationality and overseas Chinese, provide the following documents:

   (1) Birth certificate with parents' information.

   (2) Notarized foster care entrustment letter (stating entrusted care or guardianship, foster care duration, reasons for foster care, etc.).

   (3) Copy of the passport of foreign parents. If both parents or one of them is Chinese, provide a copy of the settlement certificate abroad. If both parents have obtained a foreign nationality, provide proof of Chinese descent for both parents or one of them.

   (4) Parents' travel history (when and why they first left the country, destination country, time of obtaining settlement proof, time of obtaining foreign nationality, current occupation).

   (5) Notarized guarantee letter from the foster care trustee (including accepting the entrusted care of the fostered child, undertaking care and guardianship responsibilities, and ensuring the fostered child leaves on time).

   (6) Residence registration and ID card of the foster care trustee.

9. Visa offices may request additional documents based on specific circumstances.

II. Friendly Reminders

1. Host institutions that apply for the visa for foreign nationals for the first time should register their information with local administrations of entry & exit affairs before visiting reception halls of entry & exit administration service centers affiliated with the Tianjin Municipal Bureau of Public Security and the Bureau of Public Security Bureau in Tianjin Binhai New Area to submit a visa application along with relevant materials.

2. Foreign nationals or their hosts should register personal information with local public security departments within 24 hours of their check-in if they reside or stay in places other than hotels.

3. Foreign nationals can lawfully stay in China with acceptance receipts when their passports or other international travel documents are submitted to visa authorities for approval. The validity period of acceptance receipts for visa application and residence permits does not exceed seven working days from the acceptance date. For residence permit applications, the validity period of acceptance receipts does not exceed 15 working days from acceptance date.

4. If there is a change in the registered information about foreign nationals' residence permit, the holders should apply for the change at the entry and exit administration service center of public security bureaus within ten days from the date of the change. The registered items for foreign residence permits include: the holder's name, gender, date of birth, purpose and length of residence, issuance date and place, passport or other international travel document number, etc.

5. For foreign infants born in China, their parents or guardians should apply for a stay or residence registration at the entry and exit service center of public security bureaus within 60 days of their birth and present the birth certificate.

When a foreign national dies in China, their family, guardian, or agent should report it to the entry and exit service center of public security bureaus, presenting his or her death certificate, to terminate  the stay or residence permit.

6. Among the documents that need to be submitted, marriage and birth certificates, proof of relationship and name change issued by foreign competent authorities or notary offices must be accompanied by additional certificates issued by those authorities of contracting foreign states. Relevant foreign documents should be translated into Chinese.

III. Processing Time

Processed within 5 working days from the date of acceptance.

V. Fee Standards

Less than 1 year: ¥ 400/person;

From 1 year (inclusive)  to 3 years: ¥ 800/person;

From 3 years (inclusive)  to 5 years (inclusive): ¥ 1000/person;

Additional accompanying persons: Additional charges in accordance with the above standards;

Reduced accompanying persons: ¥ 200/person;

Item changes: ¥ 200/person.
