Retail sales surge in Tianjin during Spring Festival holiday

Tianjin witnessed a surge in retail sales during the recently concluded Spring Festival holiday, according to the municipal bureau of commerce.

Data from the bureau revealed that 473 trading enterprises in Tianjin generated nearly 2.1 billion yuan ($295.6 million) in revenue and welcomed 17 million visitors during the eight-day holiday. This marked an 11.2 percent increase in revenue and a 21.4 percent increase in visitor numbers compared to the same period last year.

The catering industry also experienced significant growth, with 218 monitored catering companies reporting revenues of 55 million yuan and attracting approximately 437,000 visitors during the holiday. This represented a 21.1 percent increase in revenue and a 20.8 percent increase in visitor numbers year-on-year.

Additionally, the sales volume of 59 commercial complexes and outlets in Tianjin reached 1.2 billion yuan, with foot traffic reaching 13.8 million during the holiday. This marked a 15.5 percent increase in sales volume and a 29.5 percent increase in foot traffic year-on-year.

Furthermore, the foot traffic at 106 chain supermarket stores monitored by the bureau reached 1.74 million, a 12 percent increase compared to the same holiday period last year.
