Tianjin's trade with member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) maintained steady growth in the first eight months of 2026, with total imports and exports reaching 34.01 billion yuan ($5.07 billion), up 9.7 percent year-on-year, according to Tianjin Customs.

Exports rose 10.9 percent to 24.88 billion yuan, while imports increased 6.7 percent to 9.13 billion yuan. Monthly trade remained at a high level, with July reaching 4.57 billion yuan, the highest monthly figure so far this year, up 30.2 percent year-on-year.

Private enterprises played a major role, accounting for 20.41 billion yuan, or 60 percent of Tianjin's total trade with SCO members. Foreign-invested enterprises recorded faster growth, with trade rising 26.2 percent to 8.85 billion yuan.

Mechanical and electrical products accounted for more than 60 percent of Tianjin's exports to SCO members. Exports of electrical equipment, motorcycles and electronic components grew 69.3 percent, 48.2 percent and 26.1 percent, respectively. Agricultural exports also surged 86.9 percent.

On the import side, metal ores and concentrates were the largest category, reaching 3.02 billion yuan, up 66.7 percent. Coal and lignite imports jumped 219.8 percent, while imports of edible aquatic products rose 20 percent.
