Chinese Embassy in the Republic of Korea issues safety advisory ahead of constitutional court ruling
2025-04-02

The Chinese Embassy in the Republic of Korea (ROK) has issued a heightened safety advisory to Chinese nationals residing in or visiting the ROK, urging them to exercise increased vigilance in light of the upcoming verdict by the ROK Constitutional Court on the impeachment case of President Yoon Suk-yeol, scheduled for April 4.

The embassy forewarned that large-scale political demonstrations and rallies are anticipated to occur across the country both on and after the ruling, and the potential for escalated incidents cannot be ruled out. In preparation for possible unrest, the ROK authorities will significantly augment their police presence, with key areas in Seoul, including the Constitutional Court, being designated as "special crime prevention zones" on April 4.

In light of these developments, the Chinese Embassy strongly advises Chinese citizens to closely monitor the evolving security situation and local conditions. Chinese nationals and visitors are urged to avoid engaging in political gatherings—whether by attending, observing, or commenting on demonstrations—and to refrain from expressing or disseminating political opinions publicly. In addition, individuals should make every effort to avoid any verbal or physical confrontations with local residents.

Particular attention should be paid to avoiding sensitive locations and areas with high concentrations of people, such as the Constitutional Court, Gwanghwamun, Yeouido, and Hannam-dong. Travelers are encouraged to stay informed of police announcements regarding security measures, including traffic restrictions, and to adjust their plans accordingly to minimize exposure to potential risks.
