A China-United Kingdom exchange event on sustainable development industries was held in Tianjin on Sept 17, bringing together more than 100 representatives from over 60 companies and institutions from both countries.

Co-hosted by the Foreign Affairs Office of Tianjin Municipal People's Government and the British Embassy in Beijing, the event focused on opportunities for cooperation in advanced manufacturing, chemical industries, and maritime services.

Peter Wilson, British ambassador to China, said the long-standing China-UK comprehensive strategic partnership provides important guidance for strengthening cooperation between regions and cities. He highlighted the UK's strengths in advanced manufacturing, engineering innovation, chemicals, maritime services, finance, insurance, and legal services.

Luan Jianzhang, director of Tianjin's Foreign Affairs Office, noted that the city has developed fruitful ties with Greater Manchester and Liverpool. Tianjin and the UK have also cooperated in areas including green and low-carbon development, healthcare, education, and technology.

Li Gongliang, director of the Administrative Committee of Tianjin Dongjiang Comprehensive Bonded Zone, said the area will further promote cooperation in green shipping, maritime services, and related industries, using the UK's maritime expertise and Tianjin's strengths as a major port and international shipping hub.

The event featured industry matchmaking sessions and roundtables on advanced manufacturing, chemicals, shipping finance, and fleet development, providing new opportunities for practical China-UK cooperation.
