We are conducting studies of value addition and diversification capacity in mineral-rich countries — we have completed work in Zambia, in Namibia, and more is underway. The method uses economic complexity analysis to identify the products that are within realistic reach of a country's existing capabilities and then tests whether those products can actually be sold in global and regional markets. The point is that diversification should not be a step into the unknown.
