The China-SCO Port Economy Cooperation Center was inaugurated in Tianjin on Sept 3. It is expected to strengthen cooperation between China and SCO member states.

The new center will focus on three key areas: smarter and more convenient customs clearance, deeper international maritime cooperation, and development of the port and shipping industry.

Tianjin will explore innovative customs clearance models, promote the application of smart customs technologies, and advance coordination on technical trade measures and standards to facilitate cross-border trade. In the maritime sector, the center will expand international services, including innovative offshore ship registration, while strengthening safety management for the transport of dangerous goods.

It will also support the development of the port and shipping industry cluster in the Binhai New Area, promoting the export of advanced port management technologies and facilitating industrial cooperation with SCO and Belt and Road partner countries.

The initiative forms part of Tianjin's new "two platforms, two centers" framework for international cooperation. Looking ahead, Tianjin plans to attract more cross-border businesses and launch demonstration projects, helping build a more integrated international port economy and a new hub for high-level opening-up in northern China.
