SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev said the 2025 Tianjin Summit marked a new chapter in the organization's development.

In an interview with Tianjin Daily, Yermekbayev highlighted the historic scale of the summit, held from Aug 31 to Sept 1, 2025, which brought together heads of state or high-level representatives from 24 countries and heads of 10 international organizations. A total of 24 documents were approved, including the Tianjin Declaration and the SCO Development Strategy for 2026-2035.

He said the outcomes demonstrated the SCO's evolution from a platform for dialogue and coordination into a mature transregional community capable of contributing to global governance while advancing practical regional cooperation.

Yermekbayev also praised six cooperation platforms and centers announced at the Tianjin Summit, covering energy, green industry, the digital economy, scientific and technological innovation, higher education, and vocational and technical education. He noted that the platforms and centers would promote cooperation in green technology, digital infrastructure, talent development, and scientific innovation.

He also said Tianjin's strategic location makes it well positioned to strengthen transport connectivity and logistics cooperation among SCO members, while also offering opportunities in smart agriculture, energy conservation and efficiency.

He described the city as beautiful and livable, where history, modernity, greenery, and renowned cuisine come together.
