A group of 26 students and faculty members from Indonesia's Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) recently visited Tianjin University for a two-week international summer camp.
Hosted by the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, the program highlighted China's advances in green chemical engineering and low-carbon technologies in support of global sustainable development.
Participants attended lectures by leading researchers on topics such as intelligent chemical engineering, advanced catalysts, hydrogen purification, membrane technologies, crystallization science, and low-carbon energy solutions. They also toured the university's national laboratories and research platforms, gaining first-hand insight into cutting-edge scientific innovation.
Beyond the classroom, the summer camp emphasized practical learning. Indonesian students took part in laboratory experiments, virtual simulation training, and a Chem-E-Car competition, where teams designed and controlled chemically powered model vehicles. The activities showcased Tianjin University's innovative approach to engineering education, integrating digital technologies, remote experimentation, and artificial intelligence.
The program also introduced participants to Chinese culture and the history of Tianjin. Visits to Yangliuqing Ancient Town, the China House, the Five Great Avenues, the Italian Style Town, and the Tianjin Museum offered a deeper understanding of the city's rich heritage and its blend of Chinese and Western influences.
The exchange concluded with discussions on expanding cooperation in talent cultivation, scientific research, and experimental teaching. By combining academic collaboration with cultural immersion, the summer camp fostered lasting friendships while building a bridge for future cooperation in green chemical engineering and sustainable development.
