More than a dozen diplomatic representatives from Asian and African countries gathered in Tianjin on June 17 for the "Exploring Tianjin, Celebrating Dragon Boat Festival Together" cultural exchange event, immersing themselves in the city's rich traditions and vibrant community life.

The event welcomed delegates from countries including Malawi, Gambia, Senegal, Burundi, Kenya, Benin, Cote d'Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mali, Namibia, Vietnam, and Algeria.

Participants enjoyed a variety of performances featuring Chinese folk music, martial arts, dance, and choir singing, showcasing a blend of traditional Chinese culture and international friendship.

They also joined locals in making and tasting zongzi, the iconic sticky rice dumplings of Dragon Boat Festival, while exploring cultural displays featuring traditional knot buttons, lacquer fans, calligraphy, sand art, and scented sachets.

Officials said the event was an opportunity to deepen cultural exchanges and practical cooperation, particularly as this year marks the 70th anniversary of China-Africa diplomatic relations and the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges.

During their visit, the diplomats also toured Tianjin's historic landmarks, local enterprises, and the Haihe River waterfront. Many praised Tianjin's openness, cultural charm, and dynamic development, expressing a willingness to strengthen cooperation between their countries and the city.
