Tianjin's Hedong district revealed significant strides in fostering a cultural and creative industry ecosystem at a press conference held by the Information Office of Tianjin Municipal Government on Dec 3.
Since April, when the district established a special cultural and creative industry development office, Hedong has implemented a series of measures to drive high-quality development of the industry.
Defining industry focus
As an old saying goes, "there comes first the Zhigu area, then Tianjin city". It is true. As early as the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), Zhigu was prominent in the development of sea transportation, commercial and military activity, and religion.
Hedong district has introduced an implementation plan, mapping out a framework which takes Zhi culture as the cornerstone, industrial culture as the highlight, intangible cultural heritage and digital technology as driving forces.
The site of Tianjin No 3 Cotton Mill, added to the list of the ninth batch of Chinese 20th-century architectural heritage sites, stands as a significant relic of Tianjin's textile industry. In collaboration with municipal authorities, Hedong district is transforming this historical site into the Cotton-3 Creative Park, preserving its industrial legacy and honoring the city's industrial culture.
Introducing strategic resources
The Hedong Cultural and Creative Industry Development Office has partnered with the Beijing Chaoyang National Cultural Industry Innovation Experimental Zone. They will leverage complementary strengths in industrial chains, value chains and innovation networks to boost the Cotton 3 Creative Park, Langyuan Station and other cultural parks in the two districts.
Partnerships with leading institutions such as Nankai University, Tianjin University, Tianjin Polytechnic University, Tianjin Conservatory of Music and Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts are being strengthened to support innovation and growth.
Creating immersive tourism experiences
The 8.28-kilometer eastern bank of the Haihe River, known as Hedong's "Golden Corridor", is central to the district's cultural and tourism initiatives. By integrating the district's commercial zones, efforts are underway to rejuvenate operations at Jinfu Wharf, enhance attractions at Tianjin Jinmao Plaza and expand the offerings of the Russo-European Style Street.
Hedong district aims to develop integrated and immersive cultural tourism environments, including the Zhigu Wharf and Cotton-3 Wharf projects.
These initiatives will link nearby commercial hubs and streets, combining shorelines, venues and bridges into a seamless experience. The district is enhancing its tourism value chain, encompassing dining, accommodation, transportation, sightseeing, shopping and entertainment, ensuring every visitor enjoys the vibrant allure of Hedong.
