During the 2024 World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference in Tianjin, China, the Vice-Chancellor of Machakos University Joyce Agalo shared her impressions of the event and reflected on China-Kenya collaboration through the Luban Workshop initiative.

"The conference has been exceptionally well-organized, with activities running smoothly and on time," Agalo said.

She praised the volunteers for their dedication, noting, "They ensured our stay was comfortable and guided us everywhere."

She found the student project presentations particularly inspiring: "The students demonstrated impressive skills, passion and confidence. Their presentations reflected the quality of their training and gave hope for a future with highly skilled professionals."

Agalo emphasized the conference's global significance, noting the diverse participation from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas: "This is a truly world-class conference, uniting us with a shared vision for vocational education and skill development."

The Impact of the Luban Workshop

The vice-chancellor highlighted the role of the Luban Workshop, established in Kenya in 2019, as a key factor in advancing vocational education. Focusing on ICT, cloud computing, and emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things and blockchain, the workshop has provided Kenyan students with valuable skills and employment opportunities.

She also praised the collaborative nature of the partnership with Tianjin City Vocational College: "Our students and teachers have benefited immensely from the exchange of knowledge and technology. This partnership has strengthened ties between Kenya and China, fostering mutual growth."

Innovative Student Projects

The Luban Workshop has become a hub for student innovation, producing projects like the "Smart Architecture for the Blind", which aids visually impaired individuals. Agalo highlighted the workshop's conducive environment for research and innovation, saying: "More students are showing interest in joining our programs, driven by the advanced technologies and opportunities available."

A Bright Future for Collaboration

As part of her visit, Agalo looked forward to exploring the Luban Workshop in Tianjin to deepen the collaboration. "We are working on similar goals, and their support in technology is invaluable," she said.
