As part of China-Canada trade exchange activities, a Canadian delegation embarked on a cultural research journey in the millennium-old town of Yangliuqing in Tianjin's Xiqing district on Saturday.
The delegation visited the Yangliuqing Folk Culture Museum, experiencing the unique northern folk culture of Yangliuqing town and learning about the changes that have taken place in Xiqing district.
With clarity and enthusiasm, the guide introduced the background information about the canal culture, courtyard culture, New Year painting culture and folk culture in Yangliuqing to the Canadian guests. The delegation enjoyed themselves and almost forgot about the time as they explored the ancient town's streets and folk customs.
Whether it was the exquisite Yangliuqing New Year paintings or the rich folk customs, the delegation was captivated by the rich Chinese culture.
In addition, the delegation also visited the Yangliuqing New Year Painting Experience Base, a national-level intangible cultural heritage site in Xiqing district.
Delegation members learned about the long history of the "Yangliuqing woodblock New Year paintings" and the five steps of “designing, engraving, printing, painting, and mounting" involved in creating the New Year paintings.
The cultural trip to Xiqing has provided the Canadian delegation with a cultural feast, helping the members to gain a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese culture, which has strengthened their confidence and determination to promote cultural exchange and cooperation between China and Canada.
