The "New Trends in Old Quarter" promotional campaign was launched at Tianjin's Cao Yu Theatre on Friday, focusing on the preservation and utilization of historical and cultural blocks in Tianjin municipality and Shanxi, Anhui, and Guangdong provinces.

The four-day on-location segment in Tianjin will be attended by dozens of journalists and online influencers. They will visit iconic locations that beautifully intertwine Tianjin's rich history with its modern development, making it a vibrant destination for culture, commerce and tourism.

Gold Street

Gold Street, comprised of Binjiang Road and Heping Road, forms a cross-shaped pedestrian district in the heart of Tianjin. With a total length of 2,520 meters, it is the longest commercial pedestrian street in China.

Over the years, the addition of modern landmarks, such as Hang Lung Plaza and Metropolitan Plaza Tianjin, has solidified Gold Street's reputation as the city's premier shopping and business hub.

Recognized as a national 4A scenic spot in April 2019, it was further honored in July 2021 when the Ministry of Commerce designated it a national demonstration pedestrian street.

The Giant Copper Coin

A striking feature of Gold Street is the Giant Copper Coin, measuring six meters in diameter and inscribed with the words "Heping Jubao" (Peace and Prosperity). This impressive installation showcases more than 230 replicas of ancient Chinese coins and knife and spade-shaped currency, representing China's rich monetary history.

Around its edge, two inscriptions are symmetrically engraved: one commemorates the establishment of Heping Road in 1902, while the other marks the road's renovation in 2000. The Giant Copper Coin has become a must-visit for residents and tourists alike.

Tianjin Financial Exhibition Center

The former Kailuan Mining Bureau Building, constructed between 1919 and 1921, holds a significant place in China's industrial and financial history. Spanning 9,180 square meters, this Greek Revival-style structure was the original office of Kailuan Mining Bureau, one of China's earliest government-supervised and commercially operated national enterprises.

In 2023, Tianjin's Heping district transformed the historic site into the Tianjin Financial Exhibition Center, integrating financial history with cultural and tourism resources. The center now serves as a hub for showcasing financial heritage and providing services to financial institutions, marking a new chapter in the building's development.
