The much-anticipated 14th International Cultural Festival of Tianjin University opened on May 12, gathering over 1,000 international students from 40 countries to display their cultures and traditions.
Students, teachers and tourists enjoyed performances, an exhibition and activities during the two-day event.
At the opening ceremony, Russian girls in their traditional costumes danced gracefully to the music; students at Thailand, Myanmar and Vietnam booths offered various delicacies, including the ice-cold Thai milk tea, Burmese ramen filled with coconut milk, and the spicy and sweet Vietnamese pho; Honduran students displayed exquisite traditional handicrafts, introducing their unique connotations and stories to visitors.
The Malaysian students impressed spectators with their henna tattoo skills. The exquisite patterns of the "50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and Malaysia" expressed their best wishes for the friendship between the two countries.
As an extra bonus, a booth was set as “post office” for international students to send customized postcards to their families abroad, conveying their best wishes from Tianjin University.
Tianjin University launched its international student education program on its campus in 1954, making it one of the earliest universities in New China to accept international students.
After 70 years of development, Tianjin University will make continuous efforts to build the university into a top destination for outstanding young people from all over the world to further their studies in China, said Jin Xuan, Party Secretary of the School of International Education of Tianjin University.
