Travel, consumption give a boost to Tianjin's tourism during holiday

During the five-day May Day holiday from May 1 to 5, Tianjin emerged as one of the countrty's top destinations for both tourism and spending.

According to the 2024 May Day Holiday Travel Summary released by Ctrip, China's online travel agency, Tianjin ranked eighth in the country for peripheral travel during the holiday period. Additionally, data from digital payment services Alipay revealed that Tianjin's music event claimed the third place nationwide in terms of consumption.

Hotel bookings in Tianjin saw a 17 percent year-on-year increase, with Beijing, Shijiazhuang, Tangshan, Jinan and Shanghai being the main sources of tourists. The most popular attractions included the Tianjin Binhai Aircraft Carrier Theme Park, the National Maritime Museum of China, Tianjin Panshan Mountain Scenic Area and the Tianjin Polar Ocean Park.

Tianjin, renowned for its culinary delights, offers tourists a plethora of dining options these days. During the holiday, Tianjin hosted a breakfast-themed food and cultural tourism event, with the participation of many famous breakfast brands, drawing both locals and tourists to savor the city's food culture and experience its vibrant lifestyle amid the bustling cityscape.

With respect to cultural and historical venues, the Peking-Tianjin Campaign Memorial Museum received over 10,000 visitors in the three days leading up to the holiday, a record high. Meanwhile, the exhibition at the Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao Memorial Hall also attracted a considerable amount of tourists.

A variety of performing arts events also added vibrancy to the holiday experience. Star-studded concerts and music festivals drew numerous young visitors to celebrate together. The Chinese play, Thunderstorm, staged by the Tianjin People's Art Theater, captivated audiences from across the city. These high-quality projects have become Tianjin's new hallmark, showcasing the city's rich cultural tapestry.
