International students learning Chinese at Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA) community college welcomed a special visit from officials of the Tianjin Foreign Affairs Office and the Tianjin People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, highlighting the city's efforts to promote cultural exchange and support international residents.

During the visit on May 12, officials observed Chinese language classes, chatted with students from different countries, and handed out a practical handbook titled Foreigners Living in Tianjin Know Everything, which provides information on employment, healthcare, housing, transportation, education, and other daily-life services to help foreigners settle more comfortably in the city.

Inside the classroom, students practiced everyday Chinese expressions and shared their experiences of local culture, with some excitedly talking about trying Tianjin's famous fried dough twists and others reciting the ancient Chinese poem Xiaochi (A Small Pond), appreciating the elegance and romance of classical Chinese literature.

The international Chinese program at TEDA community college has been running for 13 years and has served more than 1,000 foreign learners. Beyond language teaching, the program also organizes concerts, cultural activities, and community events that help overseas residents better understand Chinese society and connect with local people.

Monica from Germany, whose Chinese name is Xiao Mo, said learning Chinese has allowed her to make friends and experience the warmth and hospitality of Tianjin firsthand.
