International Students Celebrate Spring Festival in Jizhou

A group of international students at Nankai University's School of International Education paid a visit to Chuanfangyu, a township in Tianjin's Jizhou district, on February 2.

The event aimed to promote traditional Chinese folk culture and Chuanfangyu's specialty agriculture, cultural and tourism resources, and attract more visitors to the township over the Spring Festival holiday, which ran from February 10 to 17.

During the thematic visit, the students from 15 countries closely appreciated traditional Chinese culture, felt the joy of picking such farm produce as strawberries and tomatoes in the town’s greenhouses, and found their favorite goods and snacks in the local folk market.

International students from Nankai University's School of International Education make their own Jiaozi (Chinese dumplings), Huamo (Chinese decorated steamed buns) and window paper-cuttings during a visit to Chuanfangyu, a township in Tianjin's Jizhou district, on February 2.

While visiting a homestay in Xinshuichang village, the international students were invited to make their own Jiaozi (Chinese dumplings) and Huamo (Chinese decorated steamed buns) and to experience first-hand the charm of traditional Chinese foods.

Additionally, they also joined local villagers in the writing of the Chinese character Fu (good fortune) and couplets, as well as in the making of window paper-cuttings to better appreciate the unique atmosphere of Chinese New Year.

Furthermore, villagers there dressed in colorful costumes gave a show of yangko dance and drum-playing at a public services center in Xinshuichang, attracting the participation of international students.

The special visit not only created an opportunity for international students to appreciate traditional Chinese culture, but also further enriched their cultural life and promoted exchange and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign cultures.
