2024-02-06

International students' Year of the Dragon journey in Hedong district, themed “Have a taste of Hedong and experience the charm of Tianjin”, was held in Tianjin's Hedong District on February 2.

Nearly 40 students from 14 countries, including Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, participated in the event. They visited key cultural sites such as the Cotton 3 Creative Blocks and the Tianfei Palace Museum, deeply immersing themselves in Tianjin culture and experiencing the local customs.

During the event, the international students paid special attention to the cultural features of the Cotton 3 Creative Blocks. They marveled at calligraphy works by Du Mingcen, a member of the Chinese Artists Association, at the Old Jinwei Tea House and tasted traditional Chinese pastries and jasmine tea by the renowned Daqiaodao brand.

At the Cotton 3 Small Theater, they watched classical magic performances by Xiao Guisen, a national-level inheritor of intangible cultural heritage. The students showed a keen interest and curiosity in these different traditional Chinese cultural elements, gaining a deeper understanding of Chinese culture as well as Tianjin's history and culture.

At the Tianfei Palace Museum, the students learned about the origins of Tianjin culture and the history of the city. At the Intangible Cultural Heritage Spring Festival Fair, students also had the opportunity to engage in making Chinese dragon lanterns, learn about Traditional Chinese Medicine, and practice calligraphy, as well as experience Tianjin-style shuttlecock and other colorful intangible cultural heritage activities.

During the event, offcials from Hedong district and Tianjin Foreign Studies University unveiled the "experience base of Tianjin culture". Hedong district will further deepen cooperation with universities to enrich the lives of international students and enhance their understanding of Tianjin culture, making them feel connected with its traditional culture.

This event is part of the "Have a taste of Hedong and experience the charm of Tianjin” cultural activities, providing international students with an excellent opportunity to understand traditional Chinese culture and Tianjin's history, while promoting exchange and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign cultures.
