[Bonding Date] On September 17, 2021, Tianjin, China and Islamabad, Pakistan signed a letter of intent to establish a sister-city relationship.

Islamabad, built in 1961 and literally the "City of Islam", is the capital of Pakistan (moved from Rawalpindi in 1965). Situated on the Pothohar Plateau to the north of Punjab and at the foot of the Margalla Hills in the north, the city has an altitude of 600 meters, an area of 909 square kilometers and a population of 1.1 million, with Rawal Lake located within the city. It has a reasonable layout, with straight, wide streets and novel architecture. Free of heavy industry, it enjoys fresh air and lush greenery, earning the reputation of a "garden city".
The city is also host to the DTMB digital TV standard demonstration project under the CPEC.
